Hi, I'm Kat.
My art practice examines the dysfunctional relationship between humanity and the natural world. I aim to promote the overlooked aspects of our environment, particularly the ongoing sixth great mass extinction. Humanity is a major contributor to species loss worldwide, yet the general public is not aware of the majority of recent documented extinctions. It is only charismatic animals, like the thylacine and dodo, that get media attention, yet 100s of species are lost each year - some unknown to science. Through my practice, I aim to spread knowledge about just a few of the wonderful species that we’ve driven to extinction, and evoke curiosity, encouraging further thought and research. My practice is multi-disciplinary, although I work predominantly with printmaking and paper art processes. I am interested in the reproducibility of printmaking and how this aspect can create artworks that extend beyond the two-dimensional plane. I also focus on reusing materials, creating artworks from second-hand books and rubbish, but also utilising my print matrices for multiple artworks. Through this, I explore how the same print can be utilised to create vastly different artworks. Thank you for taking the time to look at my website. I hope you enjoy exploring my art!
